We strive to
perpetuate the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic and the men who
fought to preserve the unity and indivisibility of our Republic. We do
this by:
-
Sponsoring and participating in ceremonies and programs to commemorate
and honor leaders and personalities of the Civil War period and events
important to the history of the G.A.R.;
-
Erecting, maintaining and preserving monuments and plaques commemorating
events and people of the Civil War;
-
Supporting the preservation of the Civil war battlefields and sites;
-
Collecting and preserving records, artifacts and memorabilia of the
G.A.R. and the Civil War;
-
Locating graves of the Civil War veterans and decorating them on
Memorial Day and another occasions;
-
Presenting Scholarship awards for Civil War Studies;
-
Encouraging research and writing on the Civil War period.
